The newly restored Tiwi Sewerage Pump Station will maintain delivery of safe and reliable water and sewerage services to customers.

About the works

The project works included refurbishment of the pump station building, electrical upgrades and fabrication and installation of new pipework infrastructure.

Summary of the Tiwi Sewerage Pump Station project works includes:

Electrical

  • Site inspection, electrical services locations, electrical design documents, drawings and lighting layout
  • Electrical inspections, test plans and safe work method statements
  • Power to the electrical site office, civil site office, amenities and temporary site power
  • Disconnection and relocation of the Motor Control Centre (MCC) and Variable Speed (VS) drives.
  • Installation of new aluminium cable ladder under the floor and above the MCC
  • Installation of new stainless steel motor termination boxes, relocation of VS drive supply and feed cables, and relocation of the float switches and level transmitters into a stainless steel termination enclosure
  • Removal of all internal building light fittings and install new weather proof light fittings, emergency lights and exit lights in the dry well area, above the dry well area and the wet well area
  • Supply of a lighting layout and completed emergency lighting log book
  • Installation and testing of a Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA) fire detection system on the MCC
  • Electrical demobilisation from site
  • Development of electrical ‘as built’ drawings.

Building

  • Site inspection including certifiers/engineers inspections and fire inspection
  • Obtain building permit based on drawings and engineers recommendations
  • Install temporary supports in place to hold wet well whilst demolition works are in progress
  • Obtain occupancy permit for works on completion and provide ‘as constructed’ drawings
  • Remove existing mechanical ventilation system, including all asbestos pipework and install new PVC pipework
  • Install new mechanical ventilation and certification for system
  • Replace roof sheeting and purlins throughout entire building
  • Supply and install sisalation and insulation to underside of new roof sheeting throughout the building
  • Contractor is responsible for design and certification of new roofing system including vermin mesh, vapour barriers, thermal and acoustic insulation
  • Replace all doors/vents with replacements of aluminium alloy construction.

Hydraulic

  • Fabrication and installation of the following pipework infrastructure:
    • New suction, discharge
    • Wall mounted pipework
    • Stainless steel pipework support brackets/braces
    • Associated inlet and discharge valves
    • Recirculation pipework
    • New pumps and pump stands
    • Temporary bypass infrastructure.
