Essential Services Operators keep power, water and sewerage services running in some of the Territory's most remote areas.

Across the Northern Territory, Essential Services Operators are employed by local shires and councils, private contractors and Aboriginal bodies. Each Essential Services Operator acts under the care and direction of Power and Water.

At times, operators work tirelessly under difficult conditions. In emergency situations, they can be away from their families for days at a time. It’s this commitment that ensures our remote communities are safe and have access to power and drinking water before, during and after an emergency or outage.

Remote operators also have daily, weekly and monthly tasks including water quality testing, diesel generator servicing and meter reading for retail services.
