Temporary power disconnection and reconnection
If you need to temporarily disconnect your electricity supply for safety, building, or operational reasons, and no electrical installation work will be performed, you can submit a request using this form.
When you need to apply
Apply for a temporary power disconnection and reconnection, if you are
- tree trimming or clearing vegetation near overhead lines
- building works near your meter or service lines (scaffolding, painting, roofing)
- requiring short-term isolation for site safety during construction or maintenance
- doing site preparation like fencing, surveying, or geotechnical testing.
Process
- Review the fees and charges associated with temporary disconnection/reconnection services.
- Complete the online temporary power disconnection and reconnection application.
- We will send an invoice for the fees and charges associated with temporary disconnection/reconnection services
- Upon receipt of payment the service can be scheduled
- Power and Water will confirm once the temporary disconnection has been booked and scheduled.

Service costs
The customer connection services fees are regulated by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) . These services include new connections, changing an existing connection, and the ongoing connection and supply of electricity to your premises.

Processing the application
Once payment is received you received by Power and Water the temporary disconnection will be booked and scheduled.

Question: What if electrical work is accidentally performed?
Answer: The request must then be submitted as a Basic Connection application via your Retailer. DNSP cannot reconnect without a Certificate of Compliance (CoC).
Question: Do I need an NT licenced electrical contractor?
Answer: If not Only if electrical work is being done. If an NT licenced electrical contractor is involved, they must confirm no CoC work is required.
Question: How long does it take to book and schedule a temporary disconnection once payment has been made?
Answer: Once payment has been received, Power and Water will schedule the temporary disconnection within five business days.
Question: Do requests made outside of normal business hours affect scheduling?
Answer: Yes. Requests made outside normal business hours (Monday to Friday, 8 am – 4 pm) may incur additional delays or charges.
Question: Does this timeframe apply to all types of temporary disconnections?
Answer: This timeframe applies to standard temporary disconnections where no electrical installation work is involved. Requests requiring electrical work (CoC) follow the Basic Connection process and may have different timeframes.
Question: Who can submit this request?
Answer: The account holder or an authorised representative (builder, contractor, etc.). If a contractor submits on behalf of the customer, they must confirm the customer’s authority.
