Darwin River Dam commenced operations in June 1972 and has been the main water supply source in the region ever since.

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary Power and Water hosted an open day to recognise the dam’s integral role in the growth and development of the Top End.

Darwin River Dam is such an important community asset, having provided the majority of the Darwin regions water supply (85 per cent) for the past 50 years. The dam holds up to 259,000 mega litres of water – that’s half the volume in Sydney Harbour, or 11 times bigger than Manton Dam!

The open day was an opportunity to connect directly with customers and the community, recognise the dam’s integral role in the growth and development of the Top End and to learn more about future plans to secure our water supply.

There was plenty on offer throughout the morning including bus tours to the dam wall with the opportunity to walk up to the spillway, giveaway bags, refreshments and family friendly entertainment.
