Our priority is safety – safety of people – our crews and the public – please do not perform DIY electrical repairs.Engage a licensed electrician to do the work instead.

As we progress through cyclone recovery, we would like to remind everyone to keep clear of downed powerlines – always assume they are live and lethal.

Power and Water has received reports of members of the public tree clearing on roads and in yards and also performing temporary fixes to service lines or electrical equipment in order to speed up the restoration of services.

Please refrain from undertaking unsafe electrical repairs or assisting with tree clearing. In some cases, for safety reasons, these efforts may even delay the restoration of essential services.

Ongoing power can only be restored after all safety checks have been undertaken across the impacted sections of our network.

As power is restored after major damage and powerlines become energised, a number of hidden hazards may become evident:

  • fallen trees may contain hidden powerlines or other electrical hazards.
  • large trees and branches can easily shift and cause serious injuries as they are cleared – leave this work to trained professionals.

If the powerline attached to the fascia (the area under the roof edge) has pulled away from your house or business, the repair crew will require a signed Certificate of Compliance issued by a Northern Territory licensed electrician before and work can begin. Go to Electricity service line on your property for more information.

Our crews are making excellent progress and power will be restored as soon as possible.

Again, please stay away from fallen powerlines and trees and engage a licensed electrician to for any repairs for any electrical work.

We ask for your continued patience and more importantly – remain safe.
