A power outage in the Ali Curung and Davenport areas just after 5:00 pm yesterday was caused by damage to powerlines along the 165 km power connection to Tennant Creek.

The damage was caused by a fire in the Karlu Karlu (Devil’s Marbles) Conservation Reserve, as reported by SecureNT.

Power and Water responded with a crew patrolling the line into the night, under difficult circumstances with the fire still burning.

The crew located damaged powerlines on the ground at 12:30 am this morning, which required extensive repairs.

The power outage impacted the water supply in Ali Curung from around 11:00 pm last night, as the pump that supplies water to the elevated water tank had no power.

A generator was transported to Ali Curung at 11:00 am this morning, to temporarily restore the supply of drinking water to the community. Packaged water was delivered to the community as a contingency.

Power and Water crews are working to connect temporary supply in Ali Curung and continue to conduct major repairs to the powerline.

The community is aware of the situation and Power and Water is keeping local police and council representatives informed of the restoration progress.

Further updates on the repair to the powerline will be provided.
