Power and Water is passionate about making a difference to the lives of Territorians and we are proud to partner with Darwin Salties, supporting the opportunity for Northern Territory teams (men and women) to compete in the National Basketball League (NBL1), North Cohort competition.

In 2022, Power and Water supported the Darwin Salties through our major partnership program, which saw the NT represented in the national competition for the first time.

The inaugural season proved to be very successful with the Salties rated in the top three teams across the entire NBL1 semi-professional competition, attracting crowds of local supporters each week.

Partnering with the Darwin Salties again in 2023 supports a direct pathway for Territory players, particularly juniors and young adults, to get exposure to the game at the semi-professional level while still remaining in the NT.

‘The huge support from Territorians for the Darwin Salties showcased how important the franchise is in offering access to a high standard of sporting competition that adds vibrancy to our community,’ Power and Water Deputy CEO John Pease said.

‘We are proud to support players and students to have access to this high level of training and competition here at home rather than needing to head interstate, which improves quality of life for members in our community.

‘Importantly, the partnership also creates opportunities for players from other urban and remote locations across the NT to be involved in basketball through Basketball NT development programs.’

Power and Water’s Major Partnerships and Community Grants Program is focused on supporting projects and initiatives in our community that align to four key priorities; help shape the future of the Territory, care for and support Territorians, and uplift and create opportunities for Territorians.

Basketball NT is looking forward to another exciting season for the Darwin Salties this year.

‘We are so pleased to have Power and Water supporting the Darwin Salties once again this year,’ Basketball NT CEO John Mitchell said.

‘Their support in our inaugural season was instrumental in ensuring such a successful year and laying the foundation for future success.’
