Power and Water is passionate about making a difference to the lives of Territorians and we are proud to partner with Share the Dignity, an Australian charity supporting those experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence, or doing it tough.

Share the Dignity distribute period products to those in need and work to end period poverty in the Northern Territory and Australia wide.

They also distribute the gift of a bag filled with toiletries and period products for those in need at Christmas time through their annual ‘It’s in the Bag Campaign’. Their work has been directly linked to providing more opportunities for women, girls and those who menstruate to find jobs, graduate school and get back on their feet.

“We are proud to work with Share the Dignity to expand their services and care and support more Territory women to have better access to sanitary products to improve their health and wellbeing,” Power and Water CEO Djuna Pollard said.

“Women experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence, or doing it tough shouldn’t have to worry about their period and through this partnership, we hope together to make a positive change and impact for women across the Territory.”

Power and Water is working with Share the Dignity on a number of initiatives to help assist women, girls and anyone with a period across the Territory to have better access to period products, including:

  • Dignity Vending Machine: Power and Water funding will see a new vending machine installed in the Northern Territory, stocked with period product supplies for four years.
  • Indigenous Menstrual Health: Share the Dignity is developing a culturally tailored education program in the NT to promote period pride in Indigenous communities. Funding from Power and Water will support phase one of the yarning circle which will help build the basis/research that will structure how the program will be developed and delivered in our community.

Power and Water’s Major Partnerships and Community Grants Program is focused on supporting projects and initiatives in our community that align to four key priorities; help shape the future of the Territory, care for and support Territorians, and uplift and create opportunities for Territorians.

Share the Dignity Founder and Managing Director, Rochelle Courtenay said she was grateful for the partnership with Power and Water so Share the Dignity can continue to support those experiencing period poverty in the NT.

“No one should have to use socks, newspaper and wadded up toilet paper to manage their period. I am grateful for the support of Power and Water so we can continue our work ensuring Territorians can manage their period with dignity,” Ms Courtenay said.

“It is incredibly important that we not only provide dignified access to period products but also provide culturally tailored education for our Indigenous communities. The yarning circle is an important step as we continue to build important relationships and learn the best way to promote period pride.”
