Territorians are encouraged to have their say on Power and Water’s proposed plans for how we will invest in the electricity network to meet the community’s needs into the future.

Power and Water has today released its 2024 – 2029 Draft Network Plan, which is the basis of a submission that will be made the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) in January 2023.

The AER ensures energy consumers receive secure, reliable and affordable energy by regulating electricity networks across most of Australia, including setting revenue thresholds for service providers like Power and Water.

“Our customers are at the centre of everything we do,” Chief Executive Officer Djuna Pollard said.

“A secure and stable electricity network that meets current and growing demand is critical to the Territory’s economic future.

“We know our services are essential to Territorians and it’s important that we listen to our customers so that their preferences and expectations can inform our future strategies and plans.”

The Draft Network Plan covers the Darwin – Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs power networks.

The networks provide electricity to 195,000 people across 72,000 residential customers and 11,000 business customers.

Power and Water has been working closely with customers and key stakeholders over the past 12 months to hear what is important to them when it comes to their electricity supply, today and into the future.

“The shift to renewables has been front of mind for our customers during our engagement sessions, including a strong interest in the growth in the renewable energy sector and an uptake of electric vehicles,” said Ms Pollard.

“We’ve listened and our Draft Plan outlines our vision of a being an enabler in the Territory’s uptake of renewable energy and the need to re-design and re-engineer our network to accommodate the shift to renewables and vehicle electrification.”

The 2024 – 2029 Draft Network Plan is open for community consultation for six weeks and Territorians are encouraged to give their feedback on what customers have told us and how we have incorporated their preferences into our future expenditure plans.
