Power and Water Corporation has announced the latest recipients of its Trevor Horman Engineering Scholarship – Elena (Ellie) Gray and Mikaela Caldwell.

Named in memory of the late Trevor Horman OAM, a highly respected former member of the Power and Water team who passed away in 2019, the scholarship provides $25,000 to recipients studying engineering at Charles Darwin University.

The opportunity also includes a 12-week paid placement with Power and Water during the recipient’s final year of study. In 2025, the program focused on supporting First Nations and female engineering students to further their education and career opportunities.

Ellie, based in Alice Springs, is a mature-aged student and aeromedical pilot for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. She is undertaking a Diploma in Engineering.

‘I’m excited to learn how Power and Water engineers solve complex problems in the remote outback,’ Ellie said.

Mikaela Caldwell, from Darwin, is studying a Bachelor of Engineering. Passionate about innovation, she plans to use the scholarship to support her studies and attend the Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Services (CAETS) later this year.

‘I’m excited to apply my skills during Power and Water placements and use the scholarship to help me build industry connections,’ she said.

Since its inception, the Trevor Horman Scholarship has supported 5 students, honouring Trevor’s decades of service to the Territory, including his mentorship and leadership during the rebuild after Cyclone Tracy in 1974.

Power and Water Senior Manager People Development and Success, Sarah Bass, said the scholarship is a way for the organisation to support the future of the industry.

‘This initiative has been a huge success and we’re delighted to support the next generation of engineering professionals in recognition of the hard work and dedication of Trevor Horman,’ she said.

‘Mikaela and Ellie are both driven individuals who, through their learning, will continue to give back to the Northern Territory.’
