Power and Water’s That’s My Water! program has been given a high-tech makeover, using virtual reality (VR) to help Territory students discover where their water comes from and learn how to save water at school and at home.

Before the school term started, teachers and industry professionals got a first look at the new VR water experience during the That’s My Water! launch and professional development session, ahead of its Term 3 rollout.

That’s My Water! gives Year 3 to 7 students a fun, hands-on way to learn where their water comes from and how simple actions can help save water at school, at home and in the community.

Power and Water’s Manager Water Demand, Joel Spry, said the VR water experience will give students the chance to virtually follow the journey of drinking water from source to tap.

“Bringing virtual reality into That’s My Water! is a game changer, immersing students in the journey of drinking water and showing them first-hand how water reaches their taps,” he said.

"Students will be able to journey through our water network from the classroom, turning learning into an unforgettable experience and inspiring the next generation of water-wise Territorians."

This term around 1,000 students across 10 schools in the Greater Darwin Region will discover the Territory’s unique water story through the interactive program.

That’s My Water! continues to expand its reach, welcoming Sanderson Middle School for the first time in 2026 while Dripstone Middle School celebrates eight consecutive years in the program.

Throughout the immersive 10-week program, teachers receive comprehensive classroom resources, access to Power and Water’s STEM professionals and hands-on learning experiences, with the VR element about midway through the program.

The program allows students to become subject matter experts before developing social action projects to inspire positive behaviour change and contribute to a more sustainable water future for Darwin.
