In memory of Jodi Triggs

The Jodi Triggs Memorial Scholarship has been established by Power and Water to honour and celebrate the life of Jodi Triggs, a highly valued member of our team.

The scholarship supports aspiring students who share Jodi's passion for economics and business finance and are committed to contributing to the Northern Territory.

About the scholarship

The Jodi Triggs Memorial Scholarship provides financial support to Northern Territory students undertaking tertiary studies in economics and/or business finance at an Australian university.

$10,000 per year of eligible study
Up to 4 years for undergraduate study
Up to 2 years for postgraduate study

Scholarship payments are made annually after evidence of enrolment in the approved degree has been provided.

Who can apply

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:

  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, holder of a permanent humanitarian visa, or New Zealand citizen
  • be a Northern Territory resident and have lived continuously in the Northern Territory for at least 12 months immediately before applying
  • have applied to undertake tertiary studies in economics and/or business finance
  • be studying an accredited degree at an Australian university
  • demonstrate a genuine interest in your chosen field
  • be committed to working in the Northern Territory after completing your studies.

Students temporarily living away from the Northern Territory for boarding school or study may still meet the residency requirement if their principal place of residence remains in the Northern Territory.

You will need to provide proof of your eligibility as part of your application. Accepted documents include an Australian or New Zealand birth certificate, Australian or New Zealand passport, Australian Citizenship Certificate, or VEVO or visa documentation.

Before you apply

Have the following information and supporting documents ready before you start your application:

  • evidence that you have applied to your university or higher education provider
  • evidence of your Northern Territory residency
  • two reference letters
  • details of your proposed degree and study period
  • your responses to the scholarship application questions.

Your application questions

You will be asked to tell us:

  1. what has motivated you to study economics and/or business finance
  2. how you plan to contribute to addressing the unique opportunities and challenges in the Northern Territory economy
  3. about achievements or contributions you have made to your community, such as volunteering or leadership roles.

If you have not yet received your university acceptance when you apply, it can be provided to Power and Water once received.

Your commitment

The scholarship is designed to support students who want to contribute their skills to the Northern Territory after completing their studies.

Before you apply, please be aware

Successful applicants are required to live and work in the Northern Territory for a total period equivalent to the duration of their scholarship.

The Territory work period must generally be completed within 10 years of completing the scholarship.

The scholarship is subject to a legally enforceable Deed. Repayment of some or all scholarship funding may be required if the obligations under the Deed are not met, unless Power and Water has agreed to release the recipient from those obligations.

No, the scholarship is for an accredited full-time degree in the field of economics and/or business finance at any Australian university.

The scholarship supports tertiary full-time studies in the field of economics and/or business finance at an Australian university.

The scholarship can provide funding for up to 2 years of postgraduate study. Undergraduate students can receive funding for up to 4 years.

You must notify us within 28 days of changes to your higher education provider, degree, enrolment status or study load. Changes will not automatically be approved.

You'll need evidence you've applied to university, evidence of Northern Territory residency, two reference letters, details of your proposed degree and study period, and responses to the scholarship application questions.

Examples include a teacher, employer, community leader or other person who can comment on your suitability for the scholarship. Friends or family are not permitted.

Evidence might include a Northern Territory school report card, student ID, driver’s licence or proof of age card, recent utility bill or bank statement showing a Territory address, or a current tenancy agreement.

You must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, a holder of a permanent humanitarian visa, or a New Zealand citizen to be eligible. You will need to provide:

  • a copy of an Australian or New Zealand birth certificate OR
  • a copy of an Australian or New Zealand passport OR
  • a copy of an Australian Citizenship Certificate OR
  • a copy of VEVO or visa documentation.

No, there is no age limit.

The requirement is to live and work in the Northern Territory for a period equivalent to the duration of the scholarship, within 10 years of finishing your studies. For example, if you receive the scholarship for 3 years, you will need to live and work in the Northern Territory for 3 years. This does not have to be 3 consecutive years. Repayment of scholarship funds may be required where scholarship obligations aren't met.

Repayment of scholarship funds may be required where scholarship obligations aren't met, unless we agree to release you from some or all obligations, such as on compassionate grounds.

The requirement is to live and work in the Northern Territory for a period equivalent to the duration of the scholarship. Employment does not have to be with us.

We may offer vacation employment or work experience, but this is not guaranteed.

The scholarship provides $10,000 for each year of eligible study, subject to the scholarship conditions.

Payments will be made annually after you provide evidence you are enrolled in an approved accredited degree.
