Helping the next generation understand the value of the essential services that support Territory homes, schools and communities every day builds habits that can make a difference for years to come.

That’s the thinking behind That's My Power!, our new hands-on education program designed to teach Territory students about power safety and smart energy use.

It is built around five key learning principles: safety around power, how to save power, why we should save power, what power is and where we get power from.

Over recent months, the pilot program has been delivered in Galiwin’ku, Laramba and Malak, with more school engagement sessions planned for Barunga, Engawala and Ali Curung.

At the Laramba trial, students built a structure designed to stop a bar of chocolate from melting, learning practical lessons about keeping fridges in the shade and planting trees to help keep homes cool.

The program combines hands on learning, local input and creative storytelling to encourage safe behaviours and promote energy efficiency in homes and communities across the Northern Territory.

The full program will be rolled out in coming months.
