Power and Water crews have restored essential services to around 6,500 people following disruptions caused by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle.

All major power and water infrastructure has been reconnected in multiple locations, including Adelaide River, Angurugu, Gapuwiyak, Gunyangara, Numbulwar, Milyakburra, Peppimenarti, Umbakumba and Yirrkala.

Crews flew and drove to sites across the Northern Territory to restore services, and worked until late last night to get the majority of Adelaide River residents reconnected, with remaining properties restored today.

The Dundee region experienced the most damage from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle, with large trees taking down power lines. The final 250 customers were reconnected to power this afternoon.

In total, around 15 individual properties remain to be connected to power as soon as Power and Water receives a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) for each. A CoC is the responsibility of the property owner.

‘This has been a massive logistical effort for our team, with several locations affected across a huge geographical area, from the east of the Territory to the west,’ Power and Water CEO Djuna Pollard said.

‘We’ve had crews and contractors out all over the Territory, and their efforts to restore services are a vital part of the plan when it comes to evacuated people being able to go home, such as residents in Numbulwar.

‘As always, we thank Territorians for their understanding, patience and support of our crews while we worked through this complex restoration.’

With the Katherine River slowly rising and more severe weather events possibly on the way, Power and Water continues to monitor the situation and remains prepared to act quickly to protect essential infrastructure, the community and crews, and restore disrupted services as necessary.
