Power has now been restored to most Katherine properties as recovery continues following last weekend’s flooding, with 60 properties remaining without power.
Some of these properties will require a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) from an NT-licensed electrician before power can be safely restored.
Residents without power are asked to check whether their property requires a CoC by calling 1800 245 092 or visiting: https://www.powerwater.com.au/outages/flooding-katherine-region
The outage map highlights areas where properties are likely to require a CoC, which must be arranged by the property owner.
Customers who are still without power and have not yet been contacted by Power and Water should call 1800 245 092.
Our crews are continuing repairs to the collapsed sewer main on Giles Street and a second temporary bypass has been installed to maintain the system while repair works are underway.
These works are not affecting sewer services to customers, however repairs are expected to take some time.
For safety, the public is asked to stay clear of the Giles Street work area.
Damage assessments have also confirmed the Katherine sewer ponds are contained.
As flood waters continue to recede, residents are reminded to ensure their Overflow Relief Gully (ORG) is clear. ORGs are located outside properties and allow any sewage overflow to occur outside rather than inside homes or businesses.
More information about ORGs is available at: https://www.powerwater.com.au/about/what-we-do/wastewater/overflow-relief-gullies
Power and Water thanks Katherine residents for their patience as recovery efforts continue.
