Power and Water crews continue to restore essential services across the Big Rivers Region, with access to some communities still impacted by flooding. Preparations are also underway for further severe weather.

A major restoration effort by crews over the past week has returned the Katherine township power network to normal operations, with more than 2,750 properties reconnected during that time.

A small number of properties remain without power, with some requiring a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) from an NT-licensed electrician before they can be safely reconnected.

A sewerage bypass remains in place on Giles Street, with crews continuing to monitor the area until works are completed. For safety, members of the public are asked to avoid the work site.

This has been a significant effort by crews over the past week to restore essential services, and we thank Katherine and Big Rivers residents for their support, cooperation and patience during recovery.

Across surrounding communities:

  • Beswick (Wugularr): 44 properties remain disconnected due to flooding.
  • Nganmarriyanga (Palumpa): Significant damage to water infrastructure and properties, with power disconnected for safety. This community has been evacuated.
  • Jilkminggan: Power, water and sewer services are operational, however a boil water alert remains pending results.
  • Daly River (Nauiyu): Major flooding has inundated the community. Power, water and sewer systems are not operational. This community has been evacuated.

Conditions in the region remain unpredictable and our crews are on standby 24/7 to respond to further severe weather events. This season has brought multiple impacts and we remain ready to respond as needed.
