Due to the presence of PFAS in water around Katherine and surrounding areas, the Northern Territory Government has introduced compulsory water conservation measures to take the pressure off our precious groundwater supplies.

Why the compulsory water conservation measures

Katherine's water usage is currently twice the national average and this needs to be reduced by 20% to ensure water supplies remain sustainable.

To support this, the Northern Territory Government has introduced compulsory water conservation measures. Power and Water has already commenced working with major water consumers across Katherine to reduce their usage.

Power and Water Corporation, through the Living Water Smart Katherine program, is committed to helping the Katherine community reduce water use.
