We are replacing the roof of the 4.5 megalitre (4.5ML) water tank at our Katherine, Morris Road, compound to ensure we maintain water quality within the network. The roof is over 40 years old and has reached the end of its usable life.

While the works take place the 4.5ML tank will be out of service and our 9ML tank will service the town. In addition we will bring on the 12ML tank that services Tindal if the need arises.

As the roofing works will take place at the same time as the PFAS water treatment plant construction local residents may notice additional traffic and noise on Morris Road as materials are delivered to and removed from site.

About the works

We have scheduled the works during the wet season when water demand in Katherine is at its lowest. Works will take place from Monday 24 January to Wednesday 1 June 2022:

  • 6.30am to 5pm on weekdays
  • 6.30am to 3pm on Saturdays.

Before the tank is taken out of service and works commence we will empty the tank as much as possible through normal use and scaffold a section of the tank to give additional access to the roof. The old roof will be completely removed before the new roof is constructed.

When roof construction has finished, any necessary maintenance on the inside of the tank will be completed before it is cleaned and refilled. We will then test the water to ensure it meets all health requirements before returning the tank to service.

We have contracted Halikos Roofing, a Darwin company, to complete the works.
