A water infrastructure project in Yulara has reached a major milestone, with the first 3 stages of construction now complete.

The Yulara Water Supply Project is making significant progress towards strengthening water security and supporting economic development, tourism and social benefits in the region.

Power and Water delivered the $23 million Yulara water supply upgrades in collaboration with local businesses, while drawing on local expertise to deliver critical water infrastructure for the region.

Works completed include a new production bore and connection to a new rising main, a new water treatment compound and two 2 megalitre water storage tanks.

Once complete, the project will provide greater water security for tourism operators servicing visitors to one of the Territory’s most important tourism regions, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, and the wider Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara regions.

It is expected that the project will create more opportunities to support First Nations economic participation and the local tourism industry.

Improved water security will also support the potential for new housing, expansion of tourist accommodation and increased confidence in private investment in the region.

The Yulara Water Supply Project is jointly funded by the Australian Government through the National Water Grid Fund, the Northern Territory Government and Voyages Tourism Australia.
