The Northern Territory’s essential services provider has taken out two major awards at the 2026 Australian Water Association NT Water Awards, which recognise excellence across the sector.

  • Power and Water received the Organisational Excellence Award.
  • Remote Water Demand Management Coordinator Rebecca Pink received the Young Water Professional of the Year Award.

The Organisational Excellence Award celebrated the emergency preparedness, operational expertise and teamwork involved in managing the one-in-200-year flooding event that saw the Darwin River Dam pump station inundated in March this year, threatening Darwin’s water supply.

Acting Executive General Manager Water Services, Kylie Collins, said the recognition demonstrated the expertise and dedication of the team that works across the Territory’s essential services.

‘Providing safe and reliable water services is fundamental to the health, wellbeing and prosperity of Territorians,’ Ms Collins said.

‘Supported by our contractors and local suppliers, our teams work year-round to maintain and strengthen our infrastructure, prepare for emergencies and respond when challenges arise. This award recognises the people behind that work and their ability to respond to complex situations while keeping the needs of our customers front of mind.’

In response to the impact of the flooding event, Power and Water is undertaking detailed planning and design works to boost the operational resilience of the dam. The design works will inform the construction of a new access road to the dam, and a new flood protection levee system to protect the pump station from future severe weather events.

The Young Water Professional of the Year Award recognises Rebecca Pink’s contribution to improving water security and supporting sustainable water management in remote Northern Territory communities. With a background in civil and environmental engineering, Bec brings together technical expertise, local knowledge and community engagement to develop practical solutions to water management challenges.

‘Bec’s recognition highlights the important role our emerging leaders play in shaping the future of water services across the Territory,’ Ms Collins said.

‘Improving water security in remote communities requires more than technical solutions. It requires collaboration, an understanding of local conditions and a commitment to delivering outcomes that work for communities. Bec demonstrates all these qualities and more through her work.’

The awards highlight Power and Water’s commitment to building a resilient water supply and delivering reliable essential services to communities across the Northern Territory.

The awards took place in Darwin on Thursday, 5 November 2026 and winners progress to the national Australian Water Awards at Ozwater'27 in Sydney.
