[1] The definition of ‘ring-fenced information’ under version 3 of the AER Ring-fencing Guideline (likely in force in November 2021) is:

“Ring-fenced information means electricity information, acquired or generated by a DNSP in connection with its provision of direct control services, that is not already publicly available, and includes electricity information: that the DNSP derives from that information; or provided to the DNSP by or in relation to a customer or prospective customer of direct control services.

[Note: aggregated financial information, or other service performance information, that does not relate to an identifiable customer, or class of customer, is excluded from the definition of ring-fenced information by reason of the definition of electricity information in this clause 1.4 of this Guideline.]”

“Electricity information means information about electricity networks, electricity customers or electricity services, other than:

  1. aggregated financial information; or
  2. other service performance information;

that does not relate to an identifiable customer or class of customer”
