Tennant Creek 22kV Indoor Substation

04 July 2017

Power and Water's commitment to a safer and more reliable power network across the Territory has been strengthened with a new 22kV indoor substation in Tennant Creek.

The $6.4 million upgrade will increase the security of power supply in Tennant Creek for approximately 3000 customers.

The substation upgrade features modern and safer design and benefits from lower maintenance requirements and operation cost reduction. The new substation has all equipment housed indoors ensuring a protected environment from dust and extreme weather, animals and greater supply security.

Power and Water’s Power Networks team includes one Aboriginal team member who worked on the entire Tennant Creek project.

Power and Water supported local business with the project and engaged two local major contractors, Delta Electrics and UGL’s Darwin based business to execute the scope of works. Tennant Creek contractor, Phillips Earthmoving also involved two aboriginal employees during their participation in the project.

Other Alice Springs and Darwin based businesses were procured to perform different capabilities to ensure the project was successfully delivered within the approved budget and on time.
