Power and Water Corporation is on the lookout for the Northern Territory’s next star.

Trevor Horman, Power and Water Corporation’s Manager Sustainable Energy said the Local Stars competition is a feature at the Corporation’s show display in Darwin.

“This year, visitors young and old will have the opportunity to ‘audition’ to potentially become Power and Water Corporation’s next eco stars, featuring in an awareness campaign which focuses on energy and water conservation,” Mr Horman said.

“In the video-booth, visitors can record a 60 second video about their ideas on how to live in a sustainable way.

“The competition is one element of the Corporation’s interactive Eco-house which features sections of an energy and water efficient house.

“It demonstrates simple and sustainable practices that Territorians can implement in their daily life − at home and in the garden − to reduce their environmental footprint, save energy, water and money.

“The aim of the Eco-house is to educate visitors about how we can all make simple changes to help preserve our precious environment.

“The rooms the Eco-house will exhibit at the Show include a kitchen, bathroom, laundry, a small living area and garden plants,” Mr Horman said.

Footage from the Local Stars competition will be posted on YouTube and the Local Stars competition website. The website will be open to public vote until the end of August. Members of the public will be able to vote for their favorite videos and share them on Facebook.

Five winners will be announced on the Local Stars website on September 26. There will be 2 winners in the People’s choice category and 3 winners in the Power and Water’s choice category.
