Palmerston water pressure management
Power and Water is making changes to the water network in Palmerston.
We are reducing the water pressure in Palmerston, which will result in a more stable and consistent water supply during peak periods and help to reduce water loss.
Why is this project needed?
Water pressure management is about providing a constant and stable water supply to our customers at a consistent pressure, especially during peak times of use.
Water pressure is the force needed to move the water from our mains to your household. The pressure management process involves isolating a high pressure area from the general network and installing specialised equipment to modify the water pressure until an optimum level is reached.
Zuccoli and Johnston water pressures are currently at the upper level of network pressures and by reducing and regulating the pressure on the water network, we can increase the performance of the network equipment and reduce water loss through leaks
What should my water pressure be?
Metres head is the measurement used to determine water pressure. It refers to the height (head) that water would rise vertically in a pipe. For example, 15 metres head of pressure would allow water to rise to a height of 15 metres.
Power and Water guarantees a minimum network pressure of 15 metres head (150kPa) under normal operation and we aim to keep network pressures below 60 metres head (600kPA) where possible.
What if I have a problem with my water pressure?
Power and Water will be actively monitoring pressures in the affected regions before, during and after the changes to ensure that changes do not fall below guaranteed levels.
If your water pressure is a concern to you, please call Power and Water to discuss your individual circumstances.
