We are replacing the roof of the Salonika elevated water tank at Goyder Road, Parap, to ensure we maintain water quality in our network. Our works program plans for the future by scheduling regular maintenance and infrastructure replacement before it effects the safety, reliability and quality of our services.
The water tank roof is more than 30 years old and is reaching the end of its usable life.
Scaffolding is being erected and roofing works are scheduled from Monday 30 May to Monday 29 August 2022:
- 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday
- 7am to 2pm on Saturdays.
During the works water will be supplied to our customers from other tanks on the network and we will monitor water quality and pressure in the area. Customers should not notice any change to your water supply as a result of the works.
While the scaffolding is being erected and covered to contain any loose particles during the works, we are also lowering the water level in the tank through normal use and will safely release any remaining water into the stormwater system before roof removal begins.
Our contractors will detach the old roofing material sheets and lower them to the ground by crane before constructing the new roof.
The tank will also be cleaned, any necessary repairs undertaken and repainted inside and out.
We expect the noise level in the immediate area to increase slightly with works activity.
When the works are complete, the inside of the tank will be cleaned and refilled and the water tested to ensure it meets all health requirements before returning the tank to service and the scaffolding removed.
Power and Water has contracted local company Halikos Roofing Pty Ltd to complete the works.
