These works are on hold due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Due to aged infrastructure and ongoing maintenance costs, Power and Water is replacing the 11kV switchboard and constructing a new building at the Sadadeen Substation. These works will provide modernised equipment, extra flexibility and increased reliability and security to the Alice Springs power network.

This $11.85M project will replace the existing building and install new 11kV air insulated switchgear (AIS). The new building and indoor equipment will be constructed on Power and Water owned land adjacent to the existing substation and connect to the existing outdoor transformers and 11kV feeders.

Yurika Pty Ltd has been awarded the design and construct contract and is subletting various packages of works to local Alice Springs and Territory companies where possible. The main works packages are:

  • Trenching works – sublet to Diggamen Civil Contracting
    Scheduled completion by mid-October 2019.
  • Civil and building works – sublet to MPH Projects
Scheduled start 1 September and completion by December 2019
  • Electrical works sublet to be advised

All works and full commissioning is expected to be complete by August 2021.

On site working hours are 7.00am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 7.00am to 1pm Saturdays. No works will take place on Sundays.
