Tools of the trade – water efficient products

Here are some of products that will help you become more water wise in your home.

Trigger nozzle

An essential part of every home with a hose. Trigger nozzles give you better control and don’t waste water when you don’t need the hose on. These are great for hand watering and washing the car.

Water efficient showerheads

Today’s water efficient showerheads use as little as seven litres of water a minute. Today’s water efficient showerheads come in a range of styles, they feel great and are very affordable. Non water efficient showerheads can use between 20 – 25 litres of water in a minute, so by changing to a water efficient showerhead you can save up to 18 litres of water each minute.

Tap timers

Always use a tap timer when watering so you don’t forget to turn it off.Tap timers are essential in every garden irrigation system. They ensure your garden gets the right amount of water and you don’t forget to turn it off. Manual tap timers are easy to install and are affordable. Electronic timers can be more expensive, but once they are programmed you won’t have to remember when to water.

Rain sensors

Rain sensors will turn electronic irrigation systems off it detects rain to avoid over watering.

Drippers

When it comes to watering your plants, drippers are the most efficient irrigation method. The slowly disperse water to the roots of the plants where it is most needed, and less water is lost from wind and evaporation. Drippers also come in 2, 4 and 8 litres per hour sizes.

Pool covers

On a hot summer’s day in Alice Springs, a pool could lose 300 litres of water from evaporation – that’s 30 buckets of water. A pool cover helps reduce evaporation, and it keep leaves and other rubbish out too.
