Reach for the stars

Australia now has the WELS (Water Efficiency Labels Standards) scheme in place. It is the world’s first water rating scheme to help consumers identify water wise products.

Where to find WELS labels

The labels apply to washing machines, dishwashers, flow controllers, toilets, showers, tap equipment and urinals.

The labels were compulsory on all of these water using appliances manufactured after 1 July 2006.

The labels look very similar to the energy rating stickers and the same principle applies – the more stars, the more efficient the product is.

The WELS scheme will replace the ‘A’ labels which are being phased out.

Save money and the environment

Often water efficient products are more expensive than less water efficient appliances. It is important to remember that the initial investment may be a little more, but over time you will save more by using less water.
