Save on Water -
The Future of Territory water is in our hands
Water is not an endless resource.
We need to start using water more wisely so territorians can enjoy a good water supply tomorrow.
Did you know?
- Darwin households use more than twice the amount
of water as the rest of Australia
- 60% of our household water is used in the garden
- The Top End is not immune to changing weather
patterns as evidenced by a poor wet season in 2005
- A rapidly increasing population is placing more
demand on water resources
- Darwin River Dam is relatively shallow, the majority of water is lost through evaporation
- Only 56 per cent of Darwin people who took part in
a recent national survey agreed with the statement
that “water is a really scarce resource in our city and
must be carefully conserved”.*
The Darwin Water Story tells the real story of water in Darwin, how much we use, how much
we could save, and the options available to meet future demand.
Community Water Grants
The Australian Government Water Fund – Community Water Grants has been established to provide funding to projects that will save, recycle or improve the health of local resources. So far, almost 1500 projects across Australia have received more than $200 million in funding over the past five years.
