Everyone plays a part in the environment

Power and Water Corporation is encouraging visitor’s to the region to reduce their power and water consumption. Special information cards will be delivered to a number of hotels throughout Alice Springs in the coming week.

Area Manager Alan Whyte said, “Many guests staying in the region don’t realise it’s one of the driest places on earth and water is limited here. With some hotels having up to 100 plus rooms, if each guest staying in those rooms can be mindful of their water use, it will make a big difference and help to save this precious resource. It’s great that these hotels have come on board and are supporting the conservation message.”

The cards provide guests with tips on how to be both water and energy wise including taking a four-minute power-shower, advising the hotel if they notice any leaking taps and turning the lights and air conditioner/heater off when leaving the room.

“This is just one of many steps the Corporation is taking to expand on its energy and water conservation campaign. In the coming months, Power and Water will be distributing a publication for its larger business customers, offering solutions to reduce their business overheads by reducing their power and water usage. Radio commercials will soon be appearing on the air-waves providing simple tips on how to reduce usage in and around the home and office,” said Mr Whyte.

Alice Springs residents will be able visit the Power and Water booth at the upcoming Central Australia Expo and collect the Green Guide and How to create a water wise garden in Central Australia publications to help reduce their power and water consumption and play a vital part in protecting our environment.
