Power and Water alerts community to stay clear as Batchelor’s Brown Oxide mine receives 22,000 volts

Power and Water Corporation will energise the new power line between Batchelor and the Compass Resources Brown Oxide Mine, just outside Batchelor, with 22,000 volts of power on Monday, 19 May.

Power and Water Acting General Manager, Networks, Paul Ascione said “This has been a challenging but very successful project that not only supports development in the Territory but will have the added benefit of improving the reliability of electricity supply to the township of Batchelor”.

“I know that the people of Batchelor have been watching the progress of the powerline for a while now but we would like to stress that with the line going ‘live’, like any power system it is extremely dangerous. While this is an exciting event, the community should stay well clear and follow any safety signs and warnings.”

The new 22,000 volt powerline has been laid a distance of 2.5 kilometres under the township of Batchelor with the remaining five kilometres of its length overhead construction along the Rum Jungle Road.
