Power and Water apprenticeships highly sought after
With a nation-wide skill shortage facing organisations, Power and Water believes investing in skilled staff is critical to achieving its $814 million asset investment program and future operations in power, water and sewerage services.
In the Southern Region – Alice Springs and Tennant Creek four new apprentices have been employed bringing the total to 16 and in the Top End – Darwin and Katherine, eight new apprentices, bringing the total to 45.
Power and Water recently held forums in Alice and Darwin for its apprentices focusing on training, health and safety and team building activities. A highlight of the Darwin forum was a presentation by Federal Member for Solomon, Damien Hale, MP, hims elf a past apprentice, who recounted his experiences both as an apprentice and a coach.
Employee and Organisational Services General Manager Rebecca Kardos said, “Apprenticeships provide Territorians with the opportunity to learn a trade in a safe but challenging environment and equip them with the skills they will need for their future careers.
“The apprentices are trained to national standards in a range of trades from electrical fitters to linespersons. They are employed through Group Training Northern Territory which provides them with ongoing support throughout their apprenticeships.”
Over the years Power and Water apprentices have gone on to win a number of Group Training Northern Territory Awards for being the Northern Territory Apprentice of the Year including representing the Northern Territory at national level awards. Apprenticeships with Power and Water are highly regarded by applicants and they in turn make great ambassadors for promoting the value of an apprenticeship and Power and Water.
