Earth Hour

Earth HourAs Territory towns and cities joined others around Australia to switch off the lights for Earth Hour last Saturday evening, the Power and Water Corporation played a vital role in monitoring and tallying the results.

In the hour between 8.00 - 9.00pm the Territory's total decrease in consumption was 5.8MWh or 3.5 tonnes of greenhouse emissions.  This equates to 6000 average cars being off the road for that one hour!

Overall results indicated that the Earth Hour event definitely highlighted people's awareness of the environmental issues and also showed that they are willing to do something about it.
