Power Station Project on TargetWork towards the development of Power and Water’s power station at Brewer Estate is progressing well and according to plan. Consultants GHD have provided their recommendations for key components of the project, including the location of the gas pipeline route, proposed contract arrangements, transmission line/switchyard options, and site layout and development. GHD has also investigated the various types of new generating plant which would be suitable for the new station. Power and Water has been working to secure easements for the natural gas pipeline and 66kV transmission lines and land for the Norris Bell zone substation. Clearances and approvals to begin work on these sites is expected to be received by December 2007 and land purchases finalised by April 2008. Power and Water will advertise the design and construction tender for the new power station in October, with design to begin when a contract is awarded and construction planned to commence by April 2008. This project is expected to provide a range of economic spin-offs for the region. Construction is expected to be complete by October 2008 to make way for the relocation of the Titan and Taurus generators now housed at the Ron Goodin Power Station. The relocation and recommissioning of the Titan and Taurus generators will be undertaken when electricity demand has lessened – after the July/ August winter peak. The gas turbine generators will shift to the Brewer Estate location by October 2008. Some of the other milestones for the project include:
