Water in the Bush Conference

Water industry professionals from across the Territory and interstate will attend the annual Water in the Bush conference, convened by the NT Branch of the Australian Water Association (AWA), at the Darwin Crowne Plaza tomorrow, Friday 26 October.

The conference, being held in conjunction with National Water Week, will present research findings, discuss current and emerging issues and promote the need for wise and sustainable management and use of water in the Northern Territory.

Power and Water’s Alex Donald is the conference organiser and President of the NT Branch of Australian Water Association.  He said

“With the current problems facing cities, towns and agriculture in the southern states, national attention is shifting to Northern Australia to relieve some of this pressure. We must be ready to protect our water resources from over exploitation, as a degraded natural resource is no use to anybody.”

Delia Lawrie MLA, Minister for Natural Resources Environment and Heritage, will open the conference. David Barnes, National AWA President and Darryl Day, General Manger, Remote Operations, Power and Water will speak on
climate change in relation to water management and Paul Heaton, General Manager Water Services, Power and Water, will deliver a presentation at the conference on water pricing.

Other presentations will focus on water sensitive urban design, water quality, recycling guidelines, recent trends in groundwater and the use of hard water in rural communities.
