7 February, 2007 Ron Goodin Power StationThe Power and Water Corporation has committed up to $20 million to remove the Titan and Taurus generators from the Ron Goodin Power Station site, purchase a new generator (which will be situated at the new site) and improve the reliability of power supply to Alice Springs residents. Several sites are being assessed at this time, and information on the relocation - including a detailed timeline - will be provided to residents next month after the site has been determined. The three sites under consideration are Brewer Estate, Ilparpa Ponds and a site near the Airport. The Power and Water Board will be making a decision about the new location at their meeting next month. The Power and Water Board is appreciative of the time residents have taken in forwarding their views. The $20 million will be invested in headworks at the new site; increasing the carrying capacity of the network; and improving the reliability of power for Alice Springs residents. Contact: |
