2 October, 2007 New Power and Water Corporation power station at the Brewer Estate to be called the Owen Springs Power Station.The new Power and Water power station to be located at the Brewer Estate has been named the Owen Springs Power Station. The Owen Springs area is synonymous with development in the Territory and formed part of John McDouall Stuart's exploration, the subsequent construction of the Overland Telegraph Line and the establishment of the Owen Springs Homestead that was the first station built in Central Australia. Power and Water also confirmed this week it was still on track to provide detailed specifications suitable for tendering on the open market for the new power station by mid October and for contracts to be awarded by the end of 2007. The specifications will include a new generator, site security, water, power, civil works, fuel (gas and distillate storage) mechanical and electrical plant and equipment. In preparation for construction with a planned start of April 2008, Power and Water has been working to secure easements for the natural gas pipeline and the 66kV transmission lines and land for the Norris Bell zone substation. Negotiations with the Central Land Council for the 66kV transmission and gas pipelines easements have begun and documentation recommending the sale of the sites is currently with the Minister for Planning and Lands. The Notice of Intent for the Owen Springs Power Station, Norris Bell zone substation and 66kV transmission easement has been approved by the Environment Protection Authority. Construction is still expected to be complete by October 2008 to enable the relocation of the Titan and Taurus generators currently operating at the Ron Goodin Power Station.
