Ron Goodin Power Station Monthly Update list

Power and Water is continuing work to reduce noise emissions from the Titan generator at the Alice Springs Ron Goodin Power Station.

This noise mitigation work remains on track to be completed by October 2006.

Work to date includes:

      • Engineering re-examining exhaust system

The exhaust system is the area of the Titan where the noise emissions can be reduced through engineering design – specifically the installation of additional baffles.

The engineering design for modifications to the exhaust silencer in order to install additional baffles is progressing as planned.

Power and Water is also working with the generator manufacturer and an engineering contractor to see whether additional work to the exhaust system can provide further noise reductions.

      • Continued sound monitoring

Sound monitoring experts Hayes MacKenzie will return to Alice Springs later in June to gather more data from around the Ron Goodin Power Station.

This round of sound monitoring will be conducted at the power station and is intended to assist with optimising the design and manufacturing of sound reduction equipment.

Once the modifications to the Titan have been completed, an accurate before and after comparison of the sound can be established. Residents that have participated in testing in the past will be approached later in the year to utilise their properties for collecting comparison data.
