National Water Education Conference Taking Place in the Alice

Scientists, engineers, teachers, lecturers and communications professionals involved in raising awareness of sustainable water use and giving people the skills to achieve this, will meet in Alice Springs next month for the Australian Water Association’s second National Water Education Conference.

The Power and Water Corporation is the major sponsor of this event, and General Manager of Water Services Darryl Day, who is also President of the Australian Water Association, believes these water educators play a critical role in teaching future generations about the world’s water resources.

“These are the professionals who can help people understand the value of water and show them how to protect and manage our water resources so it lasts for future generations,” said Mr Day.

“This conference, called From the Waters Edge to the Red Centre, reflects the national importance of our water resources and the increased community passion to be engaged in the decision making process.”

“Ultimately, we want every primary school aged child to have an understanding of the water cycle, and know that everyone has a responsibility towards protecting and conserving this resource.”

The conference has attracted a wide range of attendees, from utilities like Power and Water, from schools and universities and from the private and public sector and includes those involved in the skill development for the water industry.

The conference will be held at the Alice Springs Convention Centre from 18 to 21 April.
