Ron Goodin Power Station: Titan Generator Noise Abatement ProjectThe Power and Water Corporation has installed a new exhaust silencer onto the Titan generator at the Ron Goodin Power Station in Alice Springs. This new system was installed in late October, and since then sound consultants Hayes Mackenzie have undertaken sound testing around the Power Station site and at three locations, two within the Golf Course Estate and one on the East Side. This sound recording equipment was in place for three weeks, until Tuesday To ensure the sound testing was as accurate as possible, throughout the sound testing the Titan was run outside of the self imposed curfew period. Preliminary sound tests have confirmed that the new exhaust silencer meets the manufacturer’s guarantees. Results of sound testing around the Power Station will determine the success of the project. While Power and Water is confident that the new exhaust system has significantly reduced the noise emitted from the Titan generator, it is important to remember that there always has been and always will be noise associated with the running of a power station.
