New exhaust for Titan generator on track to meet deadline

Power and Water’s Manager Generation South, Jean-Luc Revel said that work to install additional baffles and a modified exhaust stack on the Titan generator at the Ron Goodin Power Station is on schedule to meet the October deadline.

“Power and Water has been working with the generator’s manufacturer and sound experts to develop an engineering solution to reduce the level of noise emitted from the Titan,” said Mr Revel.

“These works involve the design and installation of a new exhaust stack for the machine that includes additional baffles and a modified exhaust stack.

“Installation of the exhaust silencer will commence during the week starting Monday 16 October using local Engineering firm Ross Engineering, and the manufacturer, Colpro, will supervise the work.

“We forecast that the installation of the new exhaust silencer will be completed and the Titan ready for testing during the week starting Monday 24 October.

“The civil works for the new exhaust silencer footing has begun, and will be completed next week. The concrete footing then needs a week to cure before it is ready for use.

“The new exhaust silencer support feet will then be installed and ready by the time the exhaust silencer arrives at the power station.

“While the civil works are occurring in Alice Springs, the exhaust silencer is being constructed in Tasmania. The estimated arrival date for the exhaust silencer into Alice Springs is on Monday 16 October.

“Once the exhaust stack and additional baffles have been installed, sound consultants Hayes Mackenzie will undertake sound testing to confirm that the design of this new infrastructure has met its guarantees and will determine the success of the project.”
