Power and Water Achieves Territory First in Triple Certification

The Power and Water Corporation has become the first Territory company to implement management systems in line with the three recognised International and Australian Standards for Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Protection, and Quality of Products and Services, at the same time.

Power and Water’s Managing Director, Kim Wood, says that while the process has taken several years of hard work, achieving this triple certification is a significant milestone in Power and Water’s evolution as a Corporation.

“Not only are we the first company in the Northern Territory to introduce management systems to meet all three of these standards simultaneously, but we are also the first utility in Australia to do this,” said Mr Wood.

“Ultimately, this will help Power and Water achieve our goal of zero harm, which means a better safeguard for our working environment, improved quality of services and products and a safer workplace.

“This project has been challenging for the Corporation and the awarding of triple certification is testament to the hard work of staff across the organisation,” said Mr Wood.

SAI Global, an independent international company that specialises in Standards, Compliance and Business Improvement Solutions has worked with Power and Water for the past year, to ensure management systems comply with the required Standards.

“SAI Global conducted a final audit of Power and Water’s management systems recently, and will today announce that the Corporation has satisfied the requirements to be awarded this triple certification.

“Part of gaining triple certification means we will now be audited every six months to ensure we continue to comply with these high standards,” said Mr Wood.

The accreditations are for Occupational Health and Safety (AS/NZ 4801); Environment (ISO 14001); and Quality (ISO 9001).

These trademark logos will now be used by Power and Water to show they have been awarded these certifications.
