2006 Croc Festival - Alice Springs

Respect Yourself, Respect Your Culture

At this year's Croc Festival, Power and Water contributed sponsorship towards "Kids teaching Kids about the Environment" workshop activities. The workshop covered issues on Australia's lack of available usable water and examined ways that students could conserve this precious resource. Using a bucket of water, a spoon and a basketball, the students built a world out of basketballs to show how global warming works and a biosphere in a bottle to show the water cycle.

These activities reinforced three simple messages:

  1. there isn't much fresh water in the world
  2. there isn't much breathable air in the world; and
  3. maintenance of our natural environment ensures both these precious resources are recycled and filtered efficiently.
