14 February, 2006 Territory Students Learn how to be EnviroSmartStudents at schools across the Territory will have the opportunity to develop their own tailored environmental management programs thanks to the EnviroSmart program sponsored by Power and Water Corporation. EnviroSmart is an environmental education resource for schools prepared by the Minerals Council of Australia. Students work through a range of activities consistent with the Northern Territory Curriculum Framework and ultimately develop a School Environmental Management Plan. Schools have the opportunity to be recognised as an EnviroSmart School. Power and Water sponsorship manager Donna Boyce said the Power and Water Corporation was pleased to support the work of the Northern Territory Minerals Council and help students become more aware of environmental issues. “The EnviroSmart program complements the aims of our annual Environmental Excellence Awards,” said Ms Boyce. “A number of Territory schools that have developed School Environmental Management Plans through EnviroSmart have then gone on to enter our Environmental Excellence Awards. “It’s a great way to promote awareness of some of the simple things that can be done to reduce the pressure on the environment.” Contact: |
