9 March 2006
Alice Springs, Town of Good Sports
Sports of all kinds will be under the spotlight in Alice Springs in March, thanks to a little help from the Power and Water Corporation.
Power and Water has sponsored Sportsfest 2006, an initiative of the Alice Springs Town Council for Alice Springs sport and recreational organisations to expand and promote their sports in the region. The event also provides an opportunity for members of the community to see what activities are available to them.
Sportsfest encourages all members of the community to take part, regardless of age, culture or ability.
Power and Water sponsorship manager Donna Black said the corporation was pleased to sponsor an event that raises awareness of sport and recreational activities.
“We’re delighted to help out because Sportsfest supports a range of sporting organisations, most of which rely heavily on dedicated volunteers, to expand participation,” she said.
“The event encourages people of all ages, cultures and abilities to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle, as well as providing local sporting groups the opportunity to develop and grow.”
This year’s Sportsfest will be held at the Lyle Kempster Baseball field from 4.30pm to 8.30pm on Thursday 9 March.
