6 June 2006 Barunga Cultural and Sporting FestivalAboriginal communities from across the Top End will come together this weekend at the annual Barunga Cultural and Sporting Festival, to showcase their multiple talents to visitors from right across the world. A mix of culture, sport and music, this will be the 21st anniversary of the Barunga Cultural and Sporting Festival, which runs from 9 to 12 June. Power and Water’s sponsorship manager, Donna Black, said it is important to support events that allows Territorians from remote communities to come together to promote their traditional and cultural way of life, as well as have fun participating in sporting challenges. “The festival offers a unique opportunity for visitors to experience local aboriginal culture, sport and community life,” said Ms Black. “This is the third year Power and Water has sponsored this event, which attracts around four thousand people.” Burunga is located around 80 kilometres south east of Katherine, on the Central Arnhem Road.
