Alice Springs Solar Cities Bid

Solar PanelsPower and Water is serious about the environment and investigating renewable energy technology all over the Territory.

We’ve come a long way since we established photovoltaic solar panels out at Bulman in the Top End, and at Hamilton Downs Youth Camp and Kings Canyon in Central Australia.

Now we have a bio-diesel trial at Daly Waters, three massive solar dish installations at Ntaria, Lajamanu and Yuendumu, aSolar Panelss well as some of the largest up-takes in Australia of solar hot water systems thanks to our customer rebate program.

But our work and investment in solar power has the potential to take a huge leap forward if the Alice Springs Solar Cities bid is successful.

Power and Water is a key project partner involved with this bid.

The Australian Government will give four different regions in Australia the chance to become a Solar City and share up to $75 million in funding to make solar power projects a reality.

Power and Water will play a key role in the bidding team for Alice Springs since we are the experts on solar generated power system design and implementation in the Territory. The bid will also have to look at energy efficiency, smart metering, and tariff pricing.

See the Solar Cities web siteWorking with us to become a Solar City is the Alice Springs Town Council, Northern Territory Government, Arid Lands Environment Centre, Chamber of Commerce, Tangentyere Council, and the Desert Knowledge Cooperative Research Centre.

The bid to become a Solar City is due on April 28 and the winning bidders will be announced in August.
