Lighting up the Territory for Christmas

Australia’s largest Christmas star, measuring eight metres across, will deliver Power and Water’s Christmas message to Top End residents this year.

Located on top of the Parap Water Tank, the star and a Seasons Greetings message will be turned on at 7pm tonight (Friday 1 December).

Power and Water’s Managing Director, Kim Wood said that most corners of the Territory will be lit up with Christmas lights and strung with decorations this year, thanks to Power and Water.

“We’re proud to bring Christmas cheer to Territorians by supporting a range of community groups and organisations and sponsoring Christmas lights events this year,” said Mr Wood.

“This is the last weekend that Territory homes and businesses in major centres can enter the Show Santa Where You Live competition, and win up to $1000 off their power bill.

“In Alice Springs, we’re supporting ‘Christmas on Araluen’, which will have lighted decorations on street poles in the Araluen area.

“We’re decorating Tennant Creek’s main street with Christmas lights, and in Timber Creek and Elliott we’re supporting their local ‘Show Santa Where You Live’ Christmas lights competitions.

“In Katherine we’re decorating a water tank with lights and a Christmas Tree, and in Palmerston we’ve provided funding to the Palmerston City Council to help decorate the Palmerston water tower and the new library.

“We’re also sponsoring the Palmerston City Concert Band’s ‘Let Santa Hear Where You Live’ events, and once again Power and Water is supporting the Special Children’s Christmas Party.

“The star on the Parap Water Tank has been hired from a local company, and will stay lit up from now until early January next year.”
