Young Rodeo Riders set to Electrify

The best of the Barkly’s up-and-coming rodeo riders will make their way to Tennant Creek for the Power and Water Corporation Youth Rodeo Training and Barrel Race Challenge at the Barkly May Day Muster this weekend.

Riders will travel from the Gulf, outback stations and the desert for this event that helps young riders improve their skills and creates an opportunity for them to compete.

Power and Water’s Tennant Creek Area Manager Colin Mackenzie said the event is an important part of the Barkly May Day Muster. The best of the Barkly’s up-and-coming rodeo riders will make their way to Tennant Creek for the Power and Water Corporation Youth Rodeo Training and Barrel Race Challenge at the Barkly May Day Muster this weekend.

“It not only gets young people into town to have some fun and develop their riding skills, but it also encourages regional development,” said Colin.

“By creating opportunities and supporting young people in the Barkly region, we hope to keep them in the area for many years to come.

“You never know, one of these youngsters might swap climbing on the back of horses for climbing up power poles for us one day.

“This event is also one of the most electrifying events of the Muster and is a crowd favourite too!

“It’s the first time Power and Water have been involved in the Muster and we are proud to be supporting young Territorians in regional areas,” said Colin.

The Power and Water Corporation Youth Rodeo Training and Barrel Race Challenge takes place on Sunday 1 May from 3pm at the Tennant Creek Rodeo Grounds.

The Barkly May Day Muster starts on Friday 29 April and finishes on Sunday 1 May. Other events include Bronco Branding, a Stockman’s Challenge and the annual Black Tie Ball.
