Sound Survey Monitoring New Generator

A three-week sound survey is taking place around Alice Springs to monitor the noise produced by the new Titan generator installed at the Ron Goodin Power Station.

Power and Water Corporation Generation South Manager Jean-Luc Revel said in response to concerns by some residents regarding the level of noise produced by the generator, sound level monitoring experts Hayes MacKenzie were contracted to conduct these surveys.

“The consultant has installed noise and weather monitoring devices in three locations around Alice Springs,” said Mr Revel.

“The data recording equipment will provide exact data on sound levels produced by the generator, and also weather conditions that may impact on the noise levels within surrounding suburbs.”

The sound level monitoring experts Hayes MacKenzie can then use this data to provide engineering solutions to overcoming these noise issues.

Mr Revel said that once the sound consultant provides Power and Water with the results from the sound survey and the proposed solutions to reduce noise from the generator, this information will be provided to the community.

The new Titan generator was installed at the Ron Goodin Power Station in Sadadeen Valley earlier this year to help meet the growing power demand of Alice Springs. Since the installation of the Titan, customers have raised concerns over increased noise levels caused by it.
